End of Year update - Damnation: The Gothic Game

First of all, we’d like to wish all our followers and supporters a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We’re pleased to say that lots of work has been going on behind the scenes here at Blackletter Games, with huge progress being made. Here are some updates for you all on what we’ve been doing.

New name for an old game

The original Gothic Game has a huge place in all our hearts and we are happy to reveal that the second edition of The Gothic Game is being rebranded to Damnation: The Gothic Game. This move will hopefully help to differentiate between our version and the 1992 version.

Presenting, the box art for Damnation: The Gothic Game

Here is the recently finalised box art for Damnation: The Gothic Game. Personally we love it, and think it will look amazing on people’s shelves!

The art is done

Complete. Finito. Wedi beni. The art for the game is done. We started working with Arthogs (https://www.arthogs.com/) 12 months ago and finished earlier this month. The amount of work that has gone into the development of the art has been pretty mind blowing and we couldn’t be happier with what the team at Arthogs has delivered. With over 450 concept sketches done (just for the room cards!), characters, an incredible board, custom dice, tokens, icons… it represents a huge achievement and we’re truly grateful to everyone who has worked so hard on making our vision a reality. Without further ado, here’s some of the most recent card art that we’d like to share with you:

Next Steps

While all the artwork is complete, which is the biggest milestone for us in terms of the development of the game, there’s still plenty to be done. Playtesting and polishing the game is an ongoing process. On top of that, we’re currently re-writing all the cards in the game so that they add to the gothic horror atmosphere and, most importantly, are easy to understand. We’re delighted to announce that we’re working with the hugely talented writer, Ross Bullen (https://rossdanielbullen.com/), on this area of the game. We’re also working on the final layouts for the cards and the character sheets. Once all that is done, we’ll be developing an initial prototype, which of course, we can’t wait to share with you all.

Release Date

We’re still very much on course for a 2019 release via Kickstarter. Unfortunately we’re not in a position to give a definitive date, but as soon as we have one we’ll share it with you via our website, email and social media channels.

Final word

Just to say a final thank you to all our fans and supporters. We truly appreciate all the positive comments and likes from each of you. We have so much still to share with you, including details on the changes we’ve made to the game, the art for the board, an exclusive interview with the legendary co-creator of the original game, Mr Robert Wynne Simmons, and much more. Also, look out for your chance to win a copy of the elusive original game as we launch our next competition in early January.

Have a wonderful new year everyone,

Kris Rees
